Projects with an acoustic focus
Studio for a Composer, South Mountain NY
Nestled into a hilly wooded site the building provides space for composing, recording at different scales, office work and meetings and creative procrastinating. The house is located above the residence accessible by a path to give it privacy. Openings in the building are located carefully to view the landscape and to open up moments in the space and to connect the space to the changing landscape all around.
The main space is angled and proportioned for acoustic reasons. Built ins provide storage to the side while the entry, upper level and main space are all flexible for musical groups of varying sizes. The upper level looks north to the hillside and is partly suspended from the roof.
Movement and the variety of views are maximized along with stepping out onto the cantilevered deck over the bluff to create a compact space that allows ‘change of view’.
